GRIECHISCHE MÜNZEN
INSELN VOR THRAKIEN
THASOS
Drachme, um 500 v. Chr. Pferdefüßiger Satyr mit Nymphe (Maenade) beim Geschlechtsakt. Rs: Quadratum incusum mit vier unregelmäßigen Feldern. SNG Copenhagen 1016, Le Rider Thasiennes 3, McClean 4200. 4,08g. Bestens zentriert, fast vorzüglich. As participants of Komos the satyrs know the true promise of ancient festivities and some depictions associate them with the wine drinking rituals of Dionysios. They also are shown as libidinous creatures, from time to time trying to approach the Maenads (compare red figured vases of the 5th. century), who also attend the, sometimes horrofic, rites of Dionysos. These nymphs, as the entourage of Dionysos, nurse and take care of the young Dionysos, and continue in his worship as he comes of age. Sexual scenes compareable to coins of Thasos are quite rare on vase paintings.
