Extremely Rare 1866 Mil Mule
HONG KONG. Mil, 1866. PCGS AU-55 BN Secure Holder.
KM-Obv. 3, Rev. 1; Mars-Obv. C2, Rev. C1. Only known example in private hands, with one confirmed additional specimen interned at the Victoria Museum in Melbourne, Australia. This piece features the standard reverse for the 1866 Mil, with the obverse die employed from the earlier 1863-1865 type. The key difference being the left hand Chinese character. For the 1863 to 1865 issues the left character is "Wen" while the 1866 Mil displays the character "Ch'ien" in its place. The only other known example was provided to the Melbourne Mint by the British Royal Mint in London for inclusion in the Melbourne Mint's coinage display at the 1880 International Exhibition and the 1888 International Exhibition. Lightly circulated, this piece retains all of its original character while having developed a deep rich mahogany patina. A coin of the GREATEST RARITY and perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire this issue.
PCGS AU-55 BN Secure Holder.

Estimate: $10000.00- $12000.00
