Octavian, 32 – 27 BC
Denarius, uncertain mint before 27 BC?, AR 3.91 g. Bare head r. Rev. IMP / CAE – SAR / DIVI F around shield with central boss. C 126. BMC 309. RIC 543a. CBN 1017 (Spain).
Light iridescent tone, surface somewhat porous, otherwise about extremely fine Unusual portrait type, very different from the previous examples, but still clearly identifiable as Octavian. His upright hair on the forehead seems on the ‘wild’ side. AMP.
