As late summer 68, Æ 11.55 g. IMP SER GALBA CAES AVG TR P Bare head r. Rev. LIBERTAS – PVBLICA S – C Libertas, draped, standing l. and holding pileus and sceptre. C 124. BMC 146. RIC 372. CBN 185. A bold and realistic portrait struck on a full flan, brown tone and surface on
reverse somewhat rough, otherwise about extremely fine Ex Glendining’s 23 January 1963, 1195; Kampmann Maison Platt 9-10 March 1982, Nicolas, 231 and Sotheby’s 19-20 June 1991, Hunt part IV, 709 sales.
I really wanted a coin from the Hunt brother's collection and can still remember seeing the coins from one of their sales on a viewing in Paris. This very realistic portrait, quite rare in middle bronze, was a most welcome addition to my collection. AMP.
