A note from BCD: The preface to this book was written by Arthur Houghton thirty years ago. The political situation in the countries that are at the source of these coins has now changed dramatically but new material, perhaps just because of this change, keeps appearing in the market. One thing is for sure: Seleucid numismatics have advanced a great deal in those thirty years but, as Houghton predicted, they still have a long way to go.
