MONOGRAPHS. [Edinburgh] Rutter, N.K. A catalogue of the ancient Greek coins in the collections of the Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh. Art & Archaeology 1, November 1979. Edinburgh 1979. 4vo (21x29.5cm), printed card covers as issued; 23 pages 3 plates. Ink dedication, shelf worn. Good to Very Good. CS 1900, Daehn 1897
A note from BCD: This collection has the look of a ”Teaching Collection” in the 19th century tradition but without the poor quality silver and bronze that was usually present at that time. All the coins are correctly identified and referenced according to the latest literature. The introduction is very well laid out and a pleasure to read and learn from. We read towards the end of it that a third edition of Historia Numorum was already in preparation. Unfortunately, today, almost 40 years later, only the first volume, Italy, has seen the light of day and this we owe to the author of this small but excellent catalogue.
