TAP.Zwizeilige Inschrift. Rs: TE/PON. Zweizeilige Inschrift. Bendall 17; Göbl 2, 236. 4,13g. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich The word "tetarteron" is related to the word for the quater and it has been suggested that the word meant that a quarter of a scruple had been taken from the weight of a nomisma. As Hendy described it, the creator of the subtracted 1/36 (i.e. 1/3 of 1/12) from each third of a histamenon making total of 3/36 or 1/12 of ist total weight. Thus the tetarteron wa a coin of 22 carats. (Byzantine Weights, Bendall S. 20/17).
