[Lavy, C. F.] Museo numismatico Lavy, appartenente alla R. Accademia delle Scienze di Torino. Parte prima: Descrizione delle medaglie Greche. Parte seconda: Descrizione della medaglie Romane. Torino; Stamperia Reale, 1839-40. Complete in two volumes. 4to., pp. (6), 447, (1); (4), 483, (1); 5 + 2 plates, 3 pages of monograms. Original matching plain and blue cloth boards with printed overlay. Bindings a little shelf worn, and dusty, the inner hinges cracked and the lower section of the spine of volume one chipped. The contents browned with some foxing, particularly to the plates, some soiling, the final plate reinforced along the edges with tape. With a manuscript dedication from C. Cornaglia to ‘Mr. Falbe, Chambelland de S.M. le Roi du Danemark etc. etc. etc.’ in the second volume. Very good overall and seldom offered, especially complete as here. (2)
The extensive collection of Filippo Lavy, including 4,879 ancient Greek and 5,747 ancient Roman coins. Initially part of the collection of the Accademia delle Scienze at Turin, it was eventually absorbed by the collection of the Royal Cabinet at Turin in 1866. Babelon p. 161. Leitzmann p. 73.
