[Altieri.] Garrucci, R. I piombi antichi raccolti dall'eminentissimo principe il Cardinale Lodovico Altieri. Roma; Nella Tipografia di Clemente Puccinelli, 1847. Tall 4to., pp. (8), 95, (1); 5 fine lithographic plates. Handsomely bound by Louis Guétant in green quarter crushed morocco and marbled boards with the original printed wrappers preserved. Single gilt fillet to the upper cover, raised bands, spine gilt, marbled endpapers. A little rubbed at extremities, the contents crisp and fresh with only a few light blemishes. An attractive copy of this very rare work on ancient lead tokens, seals, weights and related objects. Fine.
Lodovico Altieri (1805-1867) was ordained to the priesthood in 1833 and served as Camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church from 1857. He contracted and died from cholera whilst tending to the sick during an outbreak and has been granted the title of Servant of God whilst being considered for a sainthood.
