Addedomaros Spiral. Sills class 3. c.45-25 BC. Gold stater. 16mm. 5.55g. Star-form solar spiral of six curved and corded arms, three crescents in centre./ Full-bodied horse right, corded mane and dewlap, cornucopia below. [AĐĐIIDOM] ABC 2517, VA 1620, BMC 2396-404, DK 488, S 201. Near EF, beautiful rose-gold, bold spiral, super horse with full cornucopia. One of the sharpest we’ve had of this striking type.
Dr John Sills thinks that Addedomaros’ Crescent Cross and Spiral staters (ABC 2514, 2517) may “signal the temporary resumption of tribute payments to Rome” because “Augustus’ planned invasion of Britain in 34 BC almost certainly lies within Addedomaros’ reign” (Divided Kingdoms, p.746). The three crescents seen here almost certainly inspired the three crescents of three Iceni staters (ABC 1639, 1651, 1654). See No.23.
