Cunobelinus Classic A, Arc Stem Type. Sills class 7c. c.AD 8-41. Gold stater. 18mm. 5.29g. Ear of barley with central stalk, scrolls at base, CA to left, MV to right./ Well-muscled ‘Classic’ style horse rearing right, corded mane, branch above, CVNO below on exergual line, beaded border. ABC−, VA 2027, BMC 1827, 1829, DK 568, S 288. Good VF, smooth surfaces of golden gold, muscular horse, bold CVNO. SCARCE.

We’ve had a dozen of these delightful Arc Stem staters – the first in 1995 – and they are still our favourites among Ancient British staters. Why? Because of the sheer beauty of their well balanced design. See how bold the barley is, with its uniquely decorated stem. See how neat the lettering is on both sides of the coin. And, above all, see how majestic the Roman-style stallion is. A fabulous example of a classic favourite.
