MACEDONIA. ACANTHUS. Tetradrachm, about 460-450 BC. AR 17.01 g. Lion r., attacking bull l. on its knees; in the exergue, fish l. Rev. Small four-part incuse square, around, AKA / NΘ / I / ON on a shallow incuse band. BMC Macedonia - ; SNG ANS – ; SNG Ashmolean – ; SNG Copenhagen – ; Desneux 87, cf. 102 ( obv. die not, rev. die R 92).
Very rare variety. Struck on a very broad flan and complete, attractive old cabinet tone.
An almost invisible scratch on obverse field, otherwise extremely fine
