Grand Master Ramon Perellos y Roccaful, 1697-1720.
Grand Master Perellos ushered in the final century of the rule of the Knights on Malta. He seems to have been highly competent: he expanded the navy, which gained some impressive victories against the Turks and the corsairs, and, with the aid of two military engineers of Louis XIV, finished many of the fortifications that had been begun in the previous century. His coinage is remarkable because of the appearance of a number of attractive multiple zecchini; silver, however, is rare.
