Grand Master Francesco Ximenez de Texada, 1773-1775.
Ximenez de Texada was very possibly the most disliked of all the Grand Masters on Malta. He seems to have been arrogant, obstinant, conservative and totally insensible to popular feeling. Things got so far that when he decided to tax bread a revolt broke out on 1 September 1775. The revolt only came to an end when the Bishop of Malta intervened. Soon thereafter the Grand Master died, mourned by few.
