Costa Rica Banco Internacional 10 Colones 5.2.1929 Pick 189B. Superior colors are seen on this elusive example. This design, along with only the 5 Colones note, were the only examples bearing the 5.2.1929 date, and are printed by Thomas De La Rue. Yet, from 1918 to 1929 the large majority of notes were designed and printed by the American Bank Note Company. It was only from 1931 forward that Thomas De La Rue received a contract for a few denominations, which were printed in several intaglio colors. The added exclusivity of these two 1929 designs add to the hypothesis that these early examples were a trial or reserve series, prepared only for the Caja de Conversion series as stocks of earlier notes (also printed by the ABNC) were exhausted. Nevertheless, all original and deep colors are seen, with a detailed vignette of coffee drying on the face. No records of this example are in the PMG Census. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
