Session C, Lot 40012

Estimate: 300 USD   |   Starting price: 150 USD Price realized: 4'800 USD

COLOMBIA. 1771-VJ Escudo. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos III (1759-1788). Restrepo 50.6. VF Detail — Chop Mark (PCGS).

Medium yellow gold with darker contrasting toning around devices and legends. The quatrefoil stamp marked behind the portrait will be familiar to most Latin American gold specialists, though it has thus far never been identified; on this coin it is tucked away fairly unobtrusively. This piece is otherwise choice and appealing for the grade.
From Stack's sale of December 1986, lot 1324.
