Estimate: 150 USD   |   Starting price: 75 USD Price realized: 288 USD

COLOMBIA. 1794/3-JF Escudo. Popayán mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). Restrepo 85.5. AU Detail — Harshly Cleaned (PCGS).

Light yellow gold with some unnatural brightness but still reasonably decent visual appeal. The obverse die shows an interesting vertical die crack in the left field, and the O of CAROL is filled. Cleaning has left some hairlines and some granular texture under a glass, but the overdate remains bold and the visual appeal is still good.
From William F. Steinberg, February 1973.
