Session C, Lot 40074

Estimate: 400 USD   |   Starting price: 200 USD Price realized: 432 USD

COLOMBIA. 1803-JF Escudo. Popayán mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). Restrepo 85.24. AU-58 (PCGS).

Flashy and lustrous light yellow gold, nearly fully reflective on the reverse. Two parallel adjustment marks are prominent through the face, descending to the lower right obverse field. The obverse die is bulged behind the portrait, near the ribbon, and the reverse shows a crack at its base, right of the mintmark. An interesting and attractive coin.
From Hans M.F. Schulman's sale of February 1973, lot 249.
