Vibrant Gem $10 Gold Certificate

Friedberg 1173a (W-1540). 1922 $10 Gold Certificate. PCGS Currency Gem New 65 PPQ.
The orange-gold overprint of this 1922 $10 Gold Certificate retains all of its original brilliance. Original embossing is also evident when viewing the note from the back. The sharply printed design is framed by ample margins on both sides. The lovely paper surfaces clearly warranted the assigned PPQ designation by PCGS. This note is the A variety for the catalog number with small serial numbers on the face.

Portrayed at the center of this note is Michael Hillegas who served as the first treasurer of the United States from 1775 to 1789. During the Revolutionary War Hillegas contributed funds from his family fortune, gained in the iron and sugar business, to the fight for American independence.

PCGS Population: 3; 10 finer.
From Heritage Auctions' sale of January 2005, lot 17809.
