Gold Certificates
Gem 1906 $20 Gold Certificate

Friedberg 1185 (W-2232). 1906 $20 Gold Certificate. PCGS Currency Gem New 65 PPQ.
Engraved signatures of Parker and Burke are seen on this beautifully crisp and original $20 Gold Certificate. Darkly printed inks and bright white paper contrast sharply and provide a striking appearance. The design is evenly centered and framed by ample margins. The back print is brilliantly displayed in vibrant orange-gold. These Gold Certificates are among the notes most susceptible to circulation, a fact that makes Gem offerings such as this all the more important. There is no fading or other distractions anywhere on the bill. For a time, beginning in 1934, possession of Gold Certificates was illegal. Collectors could not collect them and dealers could not trade them until Amon Carter Jr. convinced Congress to change the law.

PCGS Population: 2; 7 finer.
From Stack's Bowers Galleries' sale of August 2011, lot 5653.
