Corio Tree. c.20BC-5AD. Gold stater. 18mm. 5.55g. Dobunnic branch emblem on plain field./ Three-tailed horse right, CORI[O], two ringed-pellets and crescent above (forming hidden sad face), and tiny cross, V behind tail, wheel below, pellets around. ABC 2048 var., VA 1035 variant (pellets around horse), BMC 3104-3133, S 386. Good VF, scyphate flan of rich toned gold, sharply struck, bold horse, clear inscription, piercing little eyes. Ex John Follows collection.

The sad little face above the horse provides an important chronological link with Bodvoc staters (ABC 2039) which feature the same face, which unquestionably came from the staters of Tasciovanos and Andoco (ABC 2550-2568, 2715) – see Nos.33 and 35, this list. More uncertain is the V-sign behind the horse. What does it signify?
