Ringwood Cross. Sills Insular Xf2. c.60-50 BC. Gold quarter stater. 10mm. 1.46g. Plain hemisphere./ Large cross. ABC 2148, VA?, BMC 433, S?, Sills 540, The Searcher September 2016, p.86 (this coin). Good VF, as struck in golden gold, bold cross. EXCESSIVELY RARE only four others recorded, including one in the British Museum.

No fewer than six imported Globular Cross gold staters (ABC 94) have been found in Dorset, so it seems likely that these spherical Gallo-Belgic imports inspired a rich Durotrigan merchant-ruler to strike hemispherical Ringwood Cross quarter staters around the time of the Gallic War.
