JUSTIN I, 518-527. AV Solidus (4.48 gms), Constantinople Mint, 4th Officinae.
S-56. Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justin I facing three-quarters right, holding spear and shield; Reverse: Angel standing facing, holding long cross and globus cruciger, star in right field. One of the first reverse types to feature the male angel instead of the female Victory, which came about just after Constantinople's split with Rome in A.D. 519. Great strike details, slight wrinkle evident though unobtrusive.
NGC MS, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Wrinkle.
