1775 British Contemporary Counterfeit Error Quartet. A 1775-dated reverse brockage is identified as die 75A in the "British Toon" family of counterfeit halfpence, with a recut N in BRITAN. This piece grades XF with lovely light brown surfaces. A second 1775-dated reverse brockage from an uncertain family grades XF or better with choice surfaces. A duo-reverse example is distinctive, although its family remains undetermined. Several characteristics should aid eventual discovery. Britannia has a long neck, although this piece does not match any of the Long Neck family members. The two dies, while naturally not identical, are very close in their appearance. This piece grades XF or finer with choice steel-brown surfaces. Another duo-reverse example is possibly from the Wedge-Top Sevens family. Fine to VF with attractive olive-brown surfaces, this piece exhibits slight planchet rifts on one side, with minor cracks and die bulges on the other side. Ex: Eric P.
