1785 Imitation British Halfpenny, Newman 52-85C, VF. This is the plate coin for Obverse 52 and Reverse 85C in Eric P. Newman's 1988 article, "Were Counterfeit British Style Halfpence Dated 1785 Made Specifically for American Use?" that appeared in Museum Notes, Volume 33 published by the American Numismatic Society. The obverse is olive and steel-brown, and the reverse exhibits maroon patina on its olive-brown surface. A splendid example and a highly important entry for American Colonial collectors. Ex: Eric P.
