Estimate: 90'000 USD   |   Starting price: 45'000 USD Price realized: 132'000 USD
Kuang-hsü gold Pattern Kuping Tael (Liang) CD 1907 MS62 NGC, Tientsin mint, KM-Pn302, Kann-1541, L&M-1024. Reeded edge, small clouds variety. Obv. Four Chinese characters within a beaded ring standing for, "Ta Ching Gold Coin". In the outer circle above are six Chinese characters translating as,  "Made (during) the Kuang Hsu (regime) in the year of Guang XU (1907)". In the outer circle below are four Chinese characters translating as, "Kuping (weight)  1 Tael." Rev. Large dragon entirely surrounded by clouds.  A shimmering golden rarity with an exacting strike, featuring a stunning display of a dragon in the clouds. Light hairlines on the characters side largely establish the grade, though there are virtually no notable marks on the reverse dragon side, which appears essentially as-struck. The rims are towering and well-defined, acting to confirm this example for the pattern that it is, rather than as any sort of issue meant to circulate. An exciting offering, with a numismatic appeal that equals its great visual allure. Ex. Zhu H.J. CollectionHID05401242017
