In 1857, due to the high inflation, a new series of high value notes were issued. They were used primarily by businesses. Very few were actually issued and all issued notes were redeemed. One example of an issued note, in extremely poor condition, is in a private collection. The only other issued note (shown in the catalog) is in a museum. The only example of an issued 5,000 pesos note is in a museum. These were the only three notes issued in 1857. Front specimens of the three notes in this series are offered. Two variations in the text design were prepared for all three notes. Both variations can be seen in the 500 pesos notes. The front proof of the 1,000 pesos note corresponds to the issued note. The 5,000 pesos note is the second type which was not issued. It is believed to be unique. All 5,000 pesos notes, in any form, are extremely rare.
