AUSTRIA. Taler, 1575. Joachimsthal Mint. Maximilian II (1564-76). NGC EF-40.
Dav-8057. Minted at Joachimsthal, this Taler is sometimes cataloged under Bohemian rather than Austria. Rather elusive as a type, this is our first offering and the first piece to appear in major U.S. public auction since 2013. Pleasing for the issue, it is well struck with handsome gray toning and no signs of major handling. A good fit for an advanced collection of early Talers as such.

From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II.
