ALBANIA. 5 Franga Ari, 1926-R. Rome Mint. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield.
KM-8.2; Mont-40. Dies prepared by A. Motti Inc. A lovely example of the type, issued prior to Zog's coronation as King a few years later, with terrific strike details, wonderful satiny luster in the fields and warm caramel and blue tone at the edges.

Zog led an interesting life to say the least, having reputedly survived 55 separate assassination attempts. After being shot twice in 1924 in the corridors of parliament and surviving, he went on to survive yet another close call in 1931 while attending the Vienna State Opera, when he became the first reigning monarch in recorded history to return gunfire during an assassination attempt.
