SELEUCID KINGDOM. Antiochus III the Great (222-187 BC). AR tetradrachm (29mm, 12h). NGC Choice Fine. Ecbatana, series 4, ca. after 197 BC. Diademed head of Antiochus III right with rather vulpine features, slight break in bangs indicating incipient baldness at temple, diadem ends waving at angle back from head; dotted border / BAΣIΛEΩΣ / ANTIO-XOY, Apollo seated left on omphalus, testing arrow in right hand, resting left hand on grounded bow; ΩM monogram in outer left field, ΑI monogram above Ξ in inner left field. SC -, cf. 1233.2b (different inner control). Only two examples of the extremely rare 1233 issue are found in sales archives, neither of which match our coin and SC does not list any known specimens where the Ξ is the lower part of the inner monogram.
