Clacton de Jersey. Curved Exergue Type. Sills class 2a, dies 1/6. c.50-40 BC. Gold quarter stater. 14mm. 1.40g. Two-men-in-a-boat./ Long-legged horse right, pellets above, ‘coffee bean’ behind, pellet below, exergual line with zigzag and crescent decoration. ABC 2350, VA−, BMC 192, DK 412, S 42. CCI 08.8873 (this coin). VF/Good VF, pale gold, well centred horse, pretty exergual decoration. One of the nicest we’ve seen. Ex Tony Warner collection, ex Chris Hamlyn collection. SCARCE

A much nicer Clacton de Jersey gold quarter than the majority we’ve seen. The horse’s forelegs are set at a more rakish angle, its tail curls back, ending in a pert pellet, and the exergual zigzag is handsomely displayed. Published in Divided Kingdoms p.468 (this coin).
