Extensive collection of ancient coins stolen!

The theft

On 14 September 2026 at 9.30 am in Düsseldorf, a collection of 530 ancient coins was stolen. The collection consists mainly of Celtic and Greek coins. 60 pieces in the collection are made of gold.

How can you recognise the stolen collection?

Particularly striking are

• a perfectly round rainbow-coloured coin
• three ‘dancing men’ – one of them perfectly centred and stylistically close to the original, the other two already worn and distorted
• a 1/12 stater from Tarentum in gold
• a gold Drachm from Tarentum
• a perfectly centred didrachma from Segesta
• a perfectly centred drachm from Himera
• Agathocles’ diobol in gold, reverse: bull
• a gold decadrachm from Syracuse
• an obol of the Thessalian League: obverse – head and neck of a bridled horse; reverse – wheat grain in a ‘quadratum incusum’
• two hemidrachms from Pharsalus
• a stater from Abdera featuring Molpagoras’ dancer
• classical tetradrachm from Mende depicting Dionysus on a donkey
• tetradrachm from Scione
• small series of tetradrachms from Macedonian and Paeonian kings
• lovely series of hekta from Mytilene
• two gold staters of Croesus – one in the heavy standard, one in the light standard, plus two silver staters
• perfect didrachma from Kos
