Rappen
The Rappen is a traditional small coin from the Upper Rhine region, dating back to the 13th century. It owes its name to the raven depicted on early coins minted in Basel. Collectors particularly value the Gothic Rappenpfennige and the diverse city coins with their coats of arms and symbols. In Switzerland, the Rappen has remained in circulation to this day as the smallest denomination (1/100 franc), alongside the French centime. Early silver Rappen coins and rare copper coins from the 19th century are of particular interest to numismatists, especially if they are in good condition.
