Viewing
From a scientific point of view, a viewing is an important part of the valuation process where collectors, dealers and potential buyers have the opportunity to view and evaluate the coins, medals or other numismatic pieces up close. During a viewing, interested parties have the opportunity to assess the condition, quality, preservation and other important features of the objects. This can be done by looking closely at the obverse and reverse of the coins, checking minting details, edge inscriptions or other specific features. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions of experts, gain additional information about the history or provenance of the coins and build confidence in the buying process. It is common for viewings to be offered prior to the auction or sale date to give potential buyers sufficient time to inspect the items and prepare their bids or purchase decisions.
