Degree of Preservation

The grade of preservation of historical coins is a method of assessing the condition and quality of a coin. From a scientific point of view, various criteria are taken into account, including wear, surface condition and the presence of signs of wear or damage.
The higher the degree of preservation, the better the condition and the rarer the coin is to be found in this condition. Preservation grades play an important role in the valuation and collector value of historical coins. They enable collectors to assess the condition of a coin and determine the value accordingly. Historical coins in a better state of preservation are generally valued higher and therefore often realise higher prices on the collectors’ market.
