Order of the Red Star No. 3692770, awarded in 1967 to French citizen André Lavieu for his participation in the events of the Russian Civil War and in the movement in support of the Soviet Republic. André Lavieu served in the French Navy and in 1919 was aboard the French armored cruiser Waldeck-Rousseau, which operated in the Black Sea during the Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. Lavieu is mentioned among the French sailors involved in revolutionary and anti-war agitation aboard the vessel and in the distribution of revolutionary literature. Nearly half a century later, his activities were officially recognized by the Soviet Union. On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR awarded André Lavieu the Order of the Red Star. Accompanying the order is an important original personalized letter from the Embassy of the USSR in France, dated Paris, 3 November 1967 and addressed directly to André Lavieu. The Embassy’s Protocol Service states that the Soviet decoration was awarded for his: “active participation in the Revolution and the Civil War on the side of Soviet power, as well as for his participation in the movement for the defense of the Soviet Republic.” The letter further invites Lavieu to the Soviet Embassy at 79 rue de Grenelle, Paris, on 10 November 1967 at 6:00 p.m., where the decoration was to be formally presented. The lot includes: USSR Order of the Red Star, No. 3692770 Original personalized letter of the Embassy of the USSR in France, dated 3 November 1967, addressed to André Lavieu.
